The core curriculum: depth before breadth
English and mathematics are the foundation for every other subject and are critical to success at school and beyond. The academy aims to nurture strong, independent readers and children who are confident working with numbers and problem solving.
Our curriculum is designed to ensure that children master essential knowledge and skills in these core subjects.
In the infant school, pupils have four short literacy classes (phonics, guided reading, guided writing and handwriting) and three short numeracy classes every day.
Children are assessed regularly and, if a child has difficulty either with learning or with how to behave in class, we will intervene quickly. We provide individual support for every child who needs it.
The foundation subjects
We teach all the foundation subjects: art, drama, history, geography, science and information technology, both through our termly topics and discretely when it works better to do so.
